Margaux was painted quickly, in plein air,
A slapdash that conveys a vivid whole.
Remote, she is exactly what one sees:
Grace so palpable that it might freeze
A wave white-whipped across a sandy shoal.
Up close, one sees the technics of the soul:
X's, dots, dabs, splatters, matters, tears.
