How can one love last so many years?
A marriage, yes. But what about a love?
Passion rarely so resilient proves,
Perhaps because submerged in joys and tears,
Yielding to the words it daily hears.
For love to last, it must far deeper move,
Inwardly, in depths one knows not of,
Finding life where living rends and sears.
True love's a truth, a fact, a mountain range,
Yet one must choose again to love each day,
For love requires sacrifice and giving
On and on, for life, for keeps, for good.
Unless one loves, one sails adrift through change,
Requiring a point to point one's way,
The love that lasts through all the storms of living,
Here, now, the long-term love one would.
