Family Is a Gift Few Can Afford

A poem for those struggling with their relationships with family:
Family is a gift few can afford.
One pays for it, however, anyway,
Returning all the costs of room and board,
Time, tuition, love, that one might pay.
Years pass, but unclaimed memories tend to stay.
To be whole, one must one’s past embrace,
Holding it weeping to one’s willing heart,
Risking fragile peace for robust grace,
Ever love the end, right from the start,
Equally together or apart.
