Thirty-one sets out upon a road,
Hazarding no guess where it might end.
In later years, of course, he will look back,
Retracing the terrain along his track,
The years of toil and beauty life would lend.
Yet now he leans to lift his precious load.

On himself with joy he has bestowed
No small burden jammed into his pack,
Even as he eyes the rising bend.
